Index Gets Spinoff Series; Announcements from TAF

To aru Kagaku no Railgun Gets AnimeTAF is in full swing if you hadn’t already noticed which means that there are a number of new anime titles to reveal. A few of these came from other sources though, I’ll make a note of what came from where:

To aru Kagaku no Railgun: A side story of ‘To aru Majutsu no Index’ which premiered last fall, this story follows Mikoto Misaka from the original series. New information will eventually be posted to the official Index website but other than that, there are few details regarding when fans can possibly expect a release.

Yamato: A new movie addition to the ‘Yamato’ space franchise will be released to theaters sometime this year. The new movie will take place 21 years after the first Yamato story following Earth’s population into space after a black hole threatens the planet. The original hero, Susumu Kodai, is now a captain defending a transport fleet against attacks in space.

Squad: A collaborative effort from Lucent Pictures and Masamune Shirow (Ghost in the Shell, Appleseed) made its debut at TAF as well. No real details were made available regarding the release but its said to be the first effort by L4C (Lucent 4°C) to show off their new animation techniques.

Toei Robot Girls & Niji-Iro Hotaru ~ Eien no Natsu Yatsumu~ (Rainbow-colored Fireflies: The Eternal Summer Vacation): Both titles of these titles were announced by Toei at their booth this year with few details being provided about either besides both releases being feature length anime films.
