Rumor: Twilight Getting Anime?
So if you were hanging around the internet yesterday afternoon you might have heard some loud screaming coming from the direction of many, if not most, anime fans. I’m going to report on this simply because it’s there but please keep in mind that I have tagged this as a rumor. It was reported yesterday on Sci-fi Wire (SyFy?) that during the DVD commentary of the movie, the director of ‘Twilight’ reveals that the film MIGHT be made into an anime series.
The sentence comes from director Catherine Hardwicke during one of the end scenes (the one where Bella wants to be transformed into a vampire but Edward gives her a bunch of crap on why it’s a bad idea). Robert Pattenson (Edward) says “I look Asian in this scene. I do, I look like an anime character.”
To which Hardwicke replies, “Hey, I think there’s going to be an anime version of this in Japan. So you will be an anime character.”
So far there have been a few fans who have stated positive opinions to that sentence. For the most part though, it seems that anime fans are dead set against this idea. To be fair, vampires and anime have gone hand in hand for decades so a ‘Twilight’ anime adaptation would not be the most ridiculous thing that anyone has ever thought of. Perhaps one of the more pointless things but not ridiculous. On the other hand, it’s a crap movie based on a terrible (albeit best selling) book series and as the old adage goes… ‘Where there’s a profit margin, there’s a product.’

People really need to get over themselves. There are far terrible anime that already exist. Twilight would just be another drop in an ocean of terrible. I say good for whatever company decides to make it. They’ll make a pretty penny and making money is always a good thing.
@Shmee: That’s a very good point. Though there’s no guarantee that a Twilight anime would be successful.
