Story:

From the studio that brought you Noir, Madlax, El Cazador de la Bruja bring you a new crime series taking place within the United States. The mafia has their own assassin named Phantom but she’s been exposed as a young girl named Ein. A single man named Reiji accidently witnesses her latest murder but instead of being eliminated, the man has his mind erased and is turned into Phantom’s assistant named Zwei.

Artwork:

Despite all the tense atmosphere and the various action shots, the one thing that stood out about the trailer is that none of the characters looked particularly special. They all looked like they were well designed but there’s nothing particularly unique about them either. Reiji/Zwei is another run of the mill brown haired bishie type for instance. I will give them points where they are due though: maids with guns are always cool.

Early Impressions:

Originally based on a visual novel, this is the second time this title has received an anime (the first being a three episode OVA in 2004). This time being expanded out to thirteen episodes, the small cast is being led by Ayahi Takagaki (Nina in Chrome Shelled Regios)   and Miyu Irino (Tsutomu in Birdy the Mighty Decode, Syaoran  in Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle) as Ein and Zwei respectively. The story sounds like it could be interesting but at the same time there were things in that trailer that made it feel like they were trying way too hard to overcompensate for something. I’m not going into this one with very high expectations.
