Ghibli and Toyota Partner Up to Open New Animation School

Published by otakureview at 9:15 pm under Anime, Hayao Miyazaki, News, Studio Ghibli Edit This

Studio GhibliVariety is reporting that Studio Ghibli and Toyota have signed a partnership that will open a new animation school for Ghibli staff to hone their craft. Ghibli West will sit right inside Toyota’s Research and Development section where starting this April; twenty new hires will head to the facility. For two years they will study animation techniques while also studying the latest digital technologies being used by Toyota. They will get to hear lectures from Miyazaki and other members of the Ghibli staff and create short animations of their own which will screen at the Ghibli museum in Tokyo.

This is a story that really strikes me as interesting. The partnership itself is interesting but it’s also very cool that Miyazaki is opening this facility to make sure that the spirit of Ghibli will live on for a few more years in new animators with new ideas. With the way things seem to be going lately, keeping a few animators working and improving may not be such a horrible idea.
