Bandai DVD Reviews: Lucky Star Vols. 4 & 5
Real life kept me from posting these two reviews up in a timely manner but I have sprinted to catch up. Two more reviews have been posted to the site with my thoughts on the hilarious otaku comedy; Lucky Star Vol. 4 and Lucky Star Vol. 5 distributed by Bandai.
Starting with volume four; a lot of celebrations are going to take place in the four episodes on this volume. Starting with the end of winter break after the new year and quickly moving into Valentine’s Day. In episode fourteen, the audience gets to finally meet Konata’s tiny little cousin Yutaka. She’s tiny, frail, adorable, a loli and has been accepted into the same high school as Konata and her friends.
After meeting Yutaka and her best friend Minami, episode fifteen will introduce the new school year and two of Kagami’s best friends from her class (though you’ll notice only one is actually given a name). Finally in episode sixteen, the audience will get to spend some time with Miyuki before moving onto the main attraction. Talked about since early in the series, the audience will finally be taken into the cosplay café that Konata works at. In the process the audience will also be introduced to Patricia Martin, an American otaku exchange student who works with her.
And then in volume five; growing up will be the big theme of the episodes. Starting right away, Konata has a birthday and with college exams coming up the girls start talking about their career choices as the summer starts to approach. In episode eighteen, all of our new characters finally get some screen time (though once again, only a couple of them are actually introduced) via lunch with Kagami and her friends and then dodge ball in the gym with Yutaka and her three friends continuing into episode nineteen with a lot of time spent with Yutaka’s new friend, Hiyori. Finally the volume caps off with all of the characters (new and established) getting together to watch fireworks together at a summer festival.
